AJRA Gives Back at Row For The Cure

September 20th, 2011 Posted by Club News 0 thoughts on “AJRA Gives Back at Row For The Cure”

On September 17, 2011 Atlanta Junior Rowing Association partnered with the local rowing community to do our part in the fight to cure breast cancer. We are so proud to be part of this annual event with other rowing organizations in North Atlanta. Our AJRA rowers stayed on the water for 12 continuous hours. The coaches did a fantastic job keeping our boats scheduled to constantly have oars in thewater. Our part alone raised $4,552 and the money will be donated to the Susan G. Komen foundation.

In honor of this event, our rowers participate in a tie-dye party the week prior to the race. The rowers always have fun making their tie dye t-shirts and then wearing them during the Row for the Cure to really stand out on the river.  There are lots of creative teams out there showing their support for the cause with spirit!

A huge thank you goes out to all of our coaches, parent volunteers, and board members who helped make this event a success and kept all those kids fed! We really appreciate all that you do.

Parent Social this Week!

AJRA is a parent driven organization and what really makes parents feel a part of things here is getting to know each other.  This week is a great opportunity for parents to socialize while our athletes are hard at work.

Come for our potluck dinner this Thursday evening, September 22nd, for the Fall Season Parent Social.  It will be held at the River Landing next to the AJRA boathouse from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.  Please bring an appetizer, a salad, or a dessert to share.  The coaches will come over after practice is completed.  AJRA Board Members and Coaches will answer any questions you may have.

Parents from all squads are welcome to join in on the fun and to see a practice in action.   Please come and enjoy while getting to know some of the other AJRA parents.

This year we celebrate the 5th Anniversary of the Row for the Cure event in Atlanta!  Our goal is 100% participation from AJRA rowers and coaches.  Participation means rowing with the team on September 17th and/or raising funds for Row for the Cure.

US Rowing has long supported  Row for the Cure as its philanthropic endeavor.  In conjunction with this National commitment, Atlanta Junior Rowing Association decided to join the national rowing community in support of this charitable event in 2008.  Since then, AJRA has raised over $12,000 in the fight against breast cancer.

The Atlanta rowing community will keep boats on the Chattahoochee for 12 hours on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at Azalea Park Pavilion, Roswell, GA between 7am and 7pm.  All AJRA rowers are asked to participate in the event. Rowers may sign up at  AJRA coaches will organize their practices throughout the day.  Breakfast and lunch is provided for rowers and every rower receives a pink bandana to wear in support of Row for the Cure.  There will be food and fun activities that will be going on at Azalea Park Pavilion so bring your friends and family to watch and enjoy the day!
