Consider AJRA in Your Year-end Giving

December 8th, 2011 Posted by Club News 0 thoughts on “Consider AJRA in Your Year-end Giving”

Year-end is a great time for giving.  When you make a gift to AJRA by Dec. 31, you aren’t just making a charitable contribution for this tax year.  You are helping to ensure that we maintain the facilities and equipment needed to fulfill our mission of engaging middle and high school students across metro Atlanta in the Olympic sport of rowing.

As a not for profit 501c(3) organization, AJRA does not receive any public funding.  Fees each season generally cover our cost of operations while private donations primarily from our rowers and their families help maintain and expand the programs, facilities, and equipment.

If you would like to make a gift, checks made payable to AJRA can be mailed to Lisa Weiden, AJRA Treasurer, PO Box 126, Roswell, GA  30077.  To make a contribution by credit card or to transfer stock or securities, contact Lisa at ljweiden@gmail.com.  Your donation is fully deductible to the extent allowed by law and qualifies for employer matching gift programs, which double your contribution if your company offers that option.  Thanks for your support of AJRA!

AJRA Defends Coaches Cup at Henley on Hooch

On a beautiful fall day on our home stretch of the Chattahoochee, AJRA rowers successfully defended the coveted Coaches Cup as overall team winner of the Henley on the Hooch regatta Nov. 12 — giving the club bragging rights against friendly rivals St. Andrew Rowing Club for the 8th consecutive year.  The event featured 11 Novice and Varsity races along with exhibition racing by AJRA’s Developmental squad.  AJRA won 9 races — besting St. Andrew in all categories except 1st Varsity Men’s 8+ and 4+ boats.

The regatta was  started in 1996 and gets its name from the famed British Henley Regatta, which is the longest running sporting event in the world.  The event showcases the competitive field of athletes and the growing popularity of youth rowing in the city of Atlanta while providing spectators an opportunity to see firsthand the intensity and excitement of rowing competition.  Congratulations, AJRA! Henley on the Hooch Results Here.

Alumni Welcomed Back to the River

AJRA Tradition-Alumni Row 2011

Nearly 50 AJRA alumni rowers and parents  came out to the boathouse on the day after Thanksgiving for the annual Alumni Row — one of the club’s cherished traditions.  This year, current and former AJRA rowers raced a St. Andrews alumni boat, reconnected with coaches and friends, and enjoyed the famous paninis prepared by veteran hospitality volunteers!  Thanks for continuing to be a part of AJRA!
