The required parent meeting for all new and returning rowers registered for the fall season will be held this coming Sunday, Aug. 19.  Rowers are welcomed but attendance is optional.   Note new location:  inside the Boathouse.  Parking at Roswell River Landing is limited but available at Azalea Park (1/4 mile west) and Riverside Park (3/4 mile east across Hwy.9).  Please do not park on the side of Azalea Drive.

• 1 pm – Varsity (those rowers who participated on Varsity or Novice in
  Fall 2011 or Spring 2012)
• 2:30 pm – Novice and New Families (New rowers, Former D Squad
  rowers, Rowers from other Rowing Clubs)
• 4 pm – New and Returning Development Squad

Remember to bring a completed copy of the physician’s fitness verification form and a copy of your insurance card to the meeting. Varsity and Novice parents can sign up for their Volunteer position if they haven’t already done so. Come meet our coaches, purchase required travel shirt  ($15) for Novice and Varsity, shop for spirit wear, and order uniforms if needed.

IMPORTANT:  Varsity rowers will need a separate check to order uni and/or splash jackets.  Cash/checks/VISA/Mastercard accepted for purchases of required Novice and Varsity travel shirts, Novice uniforms, and optional practice Spandex and spiritwear.

If you have not registered, go to the Ronin Sign Up link and complete the registration forms prior to Sunday’s meeting.  If you are interested in rowing but aren’t sure whether to sign up, attend the AJRA Open House on Sat., Aug. 18 at the boathouse from 9 am-noon.  See post below for details.

Tell your friends! Atlanta Junior Rowing Association is hosting a free, community event for co-eds ages 12-18 on Sat., Aug. 18 from 9am to noon.  Parents are welcomed.  Come learn about the Olympic sport of rowing and AJRA’s fall programs.  Get a sense of what rowing is all about by trying dock rowing and land-based rowing machines.  Tour our boathouse and learn about our club’s 25-year history.  Coaches, parents, and current and collegiate rowers will be on hand to answer questions.  If you’d like to try a new sport, don’t miss this exciting event!

AJRA was one of several community groups invited by 11Alive to show their support of the Summer Olympics at Roswell Square on July 31.  The special Olympic broadcast — part of WXIA’s 5pm news program — featured a poster contest, youth sports demonstrations, and shows of team spirit.

Two of the four finalists in the poster contest were made by AJRA rowers, with the large Row to London banner selected as winner!  The broadcast closed with the reporter among our Varsity rowers, who did an outstanding job representing AJRA!
