This past weekend, both AJRA novice squads headed to Oak Ridge, Tennessee for the Secret City Head Race. The novice teams were certainly able to showcase their depth, with both squads each entering three novice 8+’s and four novice 4+’s, as well as entering both top 8+’s in the varsity 8+ event. Rowers and coxswains gained valuable race experience with several trips down the course, and came home with some great results. The highlight of the day was AJRA’s Novice Women’s A 8+, taking home gold in a field of 13 other novice 8+’s!

As their first regatta for the fall season, AJRA novice squads joined our varsity squads to make their mark on the Chattanooga Head Race this past Saturday. Once again,  AJRA came home with the junior points trophy! AJRA boats medaled in every event entered at the regatta, totaling 11 medals for the team out of 8 events entered.  It was a great race to kick off our novices’ season, and a strong continuation for the varsity team. Additionally, each squad displayed great depth, with second and third entries placing ahead of many other teams’ top boats.

We’re pretty excited about our first full squad regatta of the season with the Chattanooga Head Race this coming Saturday, October 13.  And to celebrate we’ll have a special parents’ food table at the AJRA tent.  Since most of our food is normally for rowers only, parents are encouraged to bring an appetizer, dessert or some sandwiches to share with other AJRA parents, so we can all get to know each other better.  Chattanooga is a wonderful venue with lots to do, so remember to bring chairs, binoculars, cameras and lots of enthusiasm to cheer our rowers on.
