On Saturday, November 10th, AJRA successfully defeated rivals St. Andrew in team points competition in order to hold on to the Coaches Cup for another year. Henley on the Hooch, started in 1996, is an annual race between the two clubs to wrap up the fall season, and sets the two teams against each other in several head race events.

AJRA’s developmental squad rowers, known as D-Squad, also got a chance to showcase their skills, racing each other in exhibition events and even racing a boat from our fall Parent Learn-to-Row! It was a strong day for all of our squads, and a great way to wrap up our fall training. With this race complete, AJRA finishes the fall season, and now turns to winter training and indoor conditioning in order to prepare for the spring race season.

The preliminary schedule is as follows:

7:30am Coaches & Coxswains Meeting
9:00am – 11:00am Novice and Varsity Races
11:00am – 12:00pm D Squad Exhibition Races

Atlanta Junior Rowing Association continued its fall campaign over the weekend by competing against teams from all over the country at Head of the Hooch, in Chattanooga, TN . The Atlanta Juniors brought their full racing squad, with varsity and novice men and women racing in several youth events. This regatta has continued to grow over the last few years, leading to an entry cap of 1200 boats racing on Saturday, and 800 boats continuing racing on Sunday. All teams gained valuable racing experience from this huge regatta, continuing to build towards the spring championship season with strong performances across the board.

Out of 13 events AJRA entered, the “A” entry placed in the top 10 finishers in 10 of these races. The “B” entries also placed well, coming in at the top of many team’s second entries, and even beating many teams’ first entries as well. With races on both Saturday and Sunday, the highlight performance came from the Varsity Women, with their Lightweight 8+ placing 3rd in a fast field, and bringing home bronze medals from Chattanooga.
