VWDogwood2013AJRA showcased great depth in the program this past weekend, with impressive results from the Oak Ridge Dogwood Regatta. Teams from across the Southeast and Midwest come to Tennessee for a full day of racing, and AJRA rowers were able to race at a high level and perform well against tough competition. This was the last regular-season regatta for the team, and all squads are looking forward to building more speed in these last few weeks before SE Regionals.

Results from the AJRA racing squad were highlighted with a gold-medal performance by the Varsity Men’s Lightweight 8+, which puts the team into a good position heading into Regionals. The women’s varsity team was led by the Varsity 8+, losing a hard-fought battle to St. Louis Rowing Club, with the team also posting top-3 finishes in the 2nd Varsity and 3rd Varsity 8+’s. Both novice teams faced the stiffest competition yet of the spring season, bringing home 5 medals between them and gaining important race experience.

AJRA Cruises at Clemson Sprints

April 9th, 2013 Posted by Races & Regattas 0 thoughts on “AJRA Cruises at Clemson Sprints”

On Saturday April 6, a select squad of AJRA rowers traveled to Clemson University to race in Clemson Sprints. Each varsity squad raced their top two 8’s in several events, and each novice squad brought their top 8 to the regatta. Despite the smaller numbers for the team, AJRA still dominated their events, and each rower came home with at least one medal.

The Men’s Varsity 8 raced as an exhibition entry in several collegiate events, meaning they were ineligible for medals or for advancing for the final, but still exceeded expectations against their older competition, including a strong 2nd in the Men’s Collegiate 8 event. The JV 8 raced as the top junior entry, bringing home a gold medal in the Men’s Varsity 8 event, and medals in many other races. The women’s Varsity 8 won their flight, as did the women’s JV 8 and the women’s Novice 8, making it a sweep on the day for AJRA in the women’s junior 8 events. Great racing, AJRA!

Medalist finishes for Clemson Sprints:

1st place: Men’s Varsity 8, Women’s Varsity 8 A, Women’s Varsity 8 B, Women’s Novice 8, Men’s Lightweight 4, Women’s Varsity 4 B, Women’s Novice 4 A, Women’s Novice 4 B
