big gift box moneyYear-end is a great time for giving.  When you make a gift to AJRA by Dec. 31, you aren’t just making a charitable contribution for this tax year.  You are helping to ensure that we maintain the facilities and equipment needed to fulfill our mission of engaging middle and high school students across metro Atlanta in the Olympic sport of rowing.

As a not for profit 501c(3) organization, AJRA does not receive any public funding.  Fees each season generally cover our cost of operations and essential equipment while private donations primarily from our rowers and their families help maintain and expand the programs, facilities, and other equipment.

If you would like to make a gift, checks made payable to AJRA can be mailed to Steve Brolly, AJRA Treasurer, PO Box 126, Roswell, GA  30077.  To make a contribution by credit card or to transfer stock or securities, contact Steve at steve.brolly@lionbank.com.  Your donation is fully deductible to the extent allowed by law and qualifies for employer matching gift programs, which double your contribution if your company offers that option.  Thanks for your support of AJRA!

On Saturday, AJRA raced the annual end-of-season Henley on the Hooch dual against St. Andrew Rowing Club, at home on the Chattahoochee River. This informal regatta provides a great opportunity for friends and family from both clubs to see their rowers compete, and gives our middle school developmental squad a chance to compete for the first time in exhibition intrasquad races.

It was a great day for all AJRA squads, with each competitive team coming off the river with a victory in every event. AJRA won the Varsity Men’s 8+, Varsity Women’s 8+, Novice Men’s 8+, Novice Women’s 8+, Novice Men’s 4+, and Novice Women’s 4+ races. Henley on the Hooch Set for Saturday

AJRASATrophyAJRA rowers:  Be ready to defend the coveted Coaches Cup as the overall team winner of the Henley on the Hooch, scheduled this year for Sat., Nov. 9.   The annual race will see us go head-to-head with friendly rival St. Andrew for bragging rights.  AJRA has won the Coaches Cup for the past nine consecutive years.

The race was started in 1996 and gets its name from the famed British Henley Regatta — the longest running sporting event in the world.  It’s a great opportunity for friends and family to see rowing firsthand right on our home stretch of the Chattahoochee.  Food will be available for rowers and families, and you can also purchase spirit wear!

The tentative schedule calls for a 7:30 am coaches and coxswain meeting with racing taking place between 8am and noon.  The  D Squad exhibition races will be in the middle of the schedule.  The trophy presentation is scheduled at approximately 12:30pm at Azalea Park with the event expected to conclude by 1pm.

Unless a squad is told otherwise by their coach, all rowers should report to the boathouse by 7:30am.  All Novice and Varsity rowers are expected to be present for the entire event.

Go AJRA!

Good Showing for AJRA at Head of Hooch

HOH2013VWlt4_nAtlanta Junior Rowing Association continued its fall campaign this past weekend by competing against teams from all over the country at Head of the Hooch, in Chattanooga, TN . AJRA brought our full racing squad, with varsity and novice men and women racing in several youth events. This regatta has continued to grow over the last few years with this year’s regatta having nearly 2000 entries. All teams gained valuable racing experience from this huge regatta and continued to build towards the spring championship season .

With races on both Saturday and Sunday, the highlight performance came from the Varsity Women, with their Lightweight 4+ placing 3rd, bringing home bronze medals from Chattanooga.

AJRA alumni rowers were also out in full force, with recent alumni competing for their current college programs, and more alumni (and current coaches!) racing together in an alumni 8+.
