AJRA Varsity and Novice rowers kicked off their championship season in style, medaling in 20 races at the Dogwood Championship this weekend in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. With sunny weather and calm water, the regatta was a great chance for the club to match up against many teams from both the Southeast and Midwest regions.

Both the men’s and women’s Varsity 8+’s were the fastest 8’s out of the Southeast’s northern sub-region (GA, TN, AL, NC, SC, and MS) represented at Dogwood, with the women’s Varsity 8+ bringing back a bronze medal. Both teams also earned medals in the 2nd and 3rd Varsity 8+’s.

In addition, the Novice teams had a chance to prove how much they have learned in their first year of competition. The Novice men’s and women’s squads medaled in every event they entered, racing to 4 golds, 5 silvers, and 1 bronze between the two teams!

AJRA c Varsity Washington DC April 2014This past weekend, a select group of AJRA rowers traveled to Washington, DC to race in a tri-meet, against three scholastic programs. National Cathedral School (NCS), St. Alban’s School (STA), and Bethesda-Chevy Chase (BCC) all hosted AJRA rowers at the small regatta and provided tough competition for an exciting mid-season out-of-region race.

Both AJRA men’s and women’s Varsity and Second Varsity 8+’s were able to gain valuable experience at the regatta, coming home with two wins and several well-rowed races. The Women’s 2V 8+ and the Men’s Junior 4+ (rowed by stern 4 of the Men’s 2V 8+) both defeated their DC counterparts by open water, and provided the highlight on the day for AJRA.

Full regatta results can be found here (men) and here (women) on row2k.

Strong Spring Continues with Team Performance at Clemson

April 8th, 2014 Posted by Races & Regattas 0 thoughts on “Strong Spring Continues with Team Performance at Clemson”
After competing in tough wind and weather last weekend, AJRA rowers were excited to compete on a sunny day at Clemson Sprints. All squads continued to build on their spring season with great races and results throughout the day.

AJRA had a dominant day in the 8+’s, winning the Women’s Varsity 8+, Men’s Novice 8+, and Women’s Novice 8+, as well as taking bronze medals with the Men’s 2nd Varsity 8+ in the Varsity 8+ event, and the Women’s Novice B 8+ in the Novice 8+ event.

Just as last year, AJRA’s Men’s Varsity 8+ raced up in the collegiate events, competing as exhibition entries, which means that the boats were unable to advance out of heats or earn medals in those races. However, that didn’t stop them from winning the Men’s Collegiate 8+ event, and placing first in both heats of the Men’s Collegiate 4+.

All results can be found through Regatta Central. Additionally, a photo album from the regatta can be found through Row2k.
