AJRA sent a Varsity Men’s 8+ to the USRowing Youth National Championship, held June 12 – 14 in Sarasota, Florida. This was the second year in a row the Men’s V8+ has qualified for the event, bringing 9 rowers down to Sarasota for the national competition. Over 1500 rowers were in attendance at the regatta, setting a record high for the level of participation and bringing the event to new levels of competition.
The Men’s 8+ raced well in heats and reps on Saturday, but failed to advance to Sunday’s finals, and placed 21st overall with their time.
Of the 9 AJRA athletes racing at Nationals, 8 were seniors, and had two great races to cap off their junior career. Several of them will continue rowing next fall for their collegiate teams, and we look forward to cheering them on!
Saturday, June 6th, AJRA will be participating in USRowing’s National Learn to Row Day! Join us for an introduction to the sport and to Atlanta Junior Rowing Association, with some basic skill instruction and a chance to sit in a boat and take some strokes. Stop by the boathouse anytime from 9am until noon. No preregistration is required, and potential rowers ages 12 and up are welcome to try it out!
