Saturday, February 18th, AJRA will hold a spiritwear sale at the boathouse from 9am to 1pm. Many favorites have returned for another season, along with several new and redesigned spring items. Please consider stopping by to pick up a new hat, hoodie, or sticker for yourself and your favorite Atlanta Juniors rower!

New for 2017, AJRA will offer a one-week Learn-to-Row camp during the first week in April. Sessions will be held Monday, April 3rd through Friday, April 7th, from 10am to 12:30pm. This is a great way to take advantage of being in town during Spring Break and learn a new sport. No experience needed for Spring Break LTR!

In the last month, three of our Atlanta Juniors rowers have been featured locally for their accomplishments on and off the water.

Sally Weltner ’18, one of our Varsity Men’s coxswains, was selected as a part of Reporter Newspapers’ 20 Under 20, a list highlighting students under the age of 20 who are active in community volunteer work. You can read more about Sally here.

Dylan Paul ’18 (Varsity Men) and Nick Schab ’20 (Novice Men) were also featured by their school, Mount Vernon Presbyterian School, for their participation with AJRA.

Spring Parent Meetings

Sunday, February 5th, AJRA will hold Spring Parent Meetings for all squads for the upcoming season. Parents should plan to attend, and rowers are welcome to join as well. Coaches, staff, and board members will be on hand to discuss several topics, including:

  • logistics for the upcoming spring season
  • coordinating carpools
  • satisfying volunteer requirements
  • uniforms and spiritwear
  • checking emergency information and medical form
  • upcoming exciting news for AJRA!

 

All meetings will be held at the Roswell River Landing, in the same parking lot as the AJRA boathouse on Azalea Drive. Varsity parents will meet at 1pm, Novice parents at 2pm, and DSquad and Rec Team parents at 3:30pm. Please email us with questions!

Saturday, January 28th, Atlanta Junior Rowing coaches and current rowers will meet with all interested athletes at 12pm to discuss what it takes to be a part of AJRA, what rowing is all about, and how to get started. The information session will start at 12pm at the AJRA Boathouse, located in the same parking lot as the Roswell River Landing on Azalea Drive. All interested students in grades 7-12 are welcome!

LTR 7-1-15All registration for fall programs is now online and open! To get started, please visit our registration page and select your program. Fall practices start in early August for varsity and novice teams, and in early September for DSquad and rec teams.

 

National Learn to Row Day

Activities will include training and lessons on land, a brief introduction of equipment, and, weather-permitting, an opportunity to sit in a rowing shell and take your first strokes on the water!

Atlanta Junior Rowing Association will have information available about summer camps, about rowing in the Atlanta area, and about year-round rowing opportunities for all ages. This is a free event, with no registration required! For more details, please check out this event on Facebook.

Five high school seniors at Atlanta Junior Rowing Association (AJRA) have committed to row at prestigious college crew programs. All five currently row with the AJRA Varsity Women’s squad, coached by Jordan Smith and Lauren Smeeding.

AJRA Names New Executive Director

The Atlanta Junior Rowing Association (AJRA) recently announced the promotion of Sarah Low to the newly created position of Executive Director as part of an effort to align the organization to best meet the goals, mission, and vision of the AJRA.

Ms. Low began duties as Executive Director in March, overseeing AJRA programming, staffing, logistics and communications. She has been with AJRA since 2012, coaching several crews and most recently serving as Program Director. Under her leadership and guidance AJRA rowers have earned 12 Southeast Regional Championships, two top ten finishes at the Youth National Championships, and an undefeated season for the Novice Men’s 8+ crew in the 2014-2015 season.

Come see us in downtown Roswell tonight at Alive in Roswell! AJRA will have a tent set up along Canton Street as a part of the city’s family-friendly event. Alive in Roswell is held every third Thursday evening, from 5pm to 9pm, from April through October — come see sat the AJRA tent for stickers, summer camp information, and learn-to-erg sessions!
