Five women from AJRA have been invited to attend US Rowing National Team summer camps designed to identify and prepare the next generation of rowers to represent the United States at World Championship and Olympic competition.

Two members of AJRA’s Varsity Women’s squad were selected to attend the 2011 Junior National Team Selection Camp – Maddie Wilson and Sarah Hudnall. Two other Varsity Women were invited to attend the Junior Worlds Development Camp – Maggie Nugent and Hannah Onians. Aja List, a member of AJRA’s Novice Women’s squad, also was selected for the Development Camp.

These “invitation only” camps provide a development opportunity for high school girls who have met defined athletic standards for their age and demonstrated the ability to compete at a high level. The camps are held June 15-July 1 at the US Coast Guard Academy in New London, Ct. Top athletes from these camps will be selected for the 2011 Junior National Team, 2012 Junior Worlds Development Team or to represent the US at Club Nationals this summer. Junior National team rowers will compete in August at the World Championships in Eton, Great Britain, while the 2012 Junior World Development squad will train and compete in Berlin with the German Junior National Team.

“The selection of five AJRA athletes for the Jr. National Team system this year is a major accomplishment for our club,” said AJRA Varsity Women’s Coach Bryce Carlson. “These invitations recognize the depth of talent in our program with five of the top female high school rowers in the nation competing here at AJRA.”
