AJRA - Atlanta Junior Rowing Association

Experienced Summer Programs

For Summer 2018, there are three AJRA camps for returning rowers of all levels. All camps will be staffed by current competitive coaches with additional summer staff.

Technical Development Camp

These three-week camps for both rowers and coxswains are the most advanced camps AJRA offers for summer season. Rowers will be grouped by age and skill, with the most advanced rowers focusing on small boat training. There are three sessions available during the summer, and rowers are welcome to sign up for one, two, or all three sessions.

Racing information will be distributed once camps are finalized. There is an additional fee for each of the three regattas, and all rowers who commit to each regatta will travel as a part of the summer racing team. All interested rowers will have three summer racing opportunities:

  •  Southeast Regionals in Augusta on June 23-24
  •  Independence Day Regatta in Philadelphia on June 29-July 1
  • Chattahoochee Sprints in Roswell on July 21

  • 4 water sessions, Mon – Thurs, 4:30 – 6:30pm
  • 6 additional sessions for racing group, Mon – Sat, 6:00 – 8:00am

  • Session 1: May 21 – June 9
  • Session 2: June 11 – June 30
  • Session 3: July 9 – July 28

PREREQUISITES: Returning Novice and Varsity squad members only

COST: $400 per session for rowers, $400 for all three sessions for experienced coxswains. Each regatta will have an additional fee.

Returning Rower Camp

DSC_0405This two-week camp for both rowers and coxswains offers a summer rowing experience with a heavy focus on the technical aspects of the rowing stroke. Rowers will be grouped by age and skill. The most advanced rowers will focus on small boat training, while the less experienced rowers will be focusing on the application of the rowing stroke in our fleet of eight oared shells. This is the BEST summer fit for returning DSquad and Rec Team rowers!

  • Mon – Fri, 6:00 – 8:00pm

  • Session 1: June 11 – June 22
  • Session 2: July 9 – July 20

PREREQUISITES: Returning Rec Team, D-Squad, Novice, or Varsity squad members

COST: $250 per session

Preseason Camp

DSC_0341This two-week camp is designed to jump start rowers into training prior to the beginning of the fall season. It is also a great way to get a feel for rowing competitively at AJRA, and for rowers to start to work with their coaches and future teammates.

Varsity Preseason Camp will be afternoon sessions at the boathouse, with either land or water training. Novice Preseason Camp will be afternoon sessions at the boathouse, focusing on technique, with mostly land training.

  • Varsity Preseason Camp, for both men and women: August 6 – August 17, Mon – Fri, 4:30pm – 6:30pm
  • Novice Women Preseason Camp: August 6 – August 17, Mon/Tues/Thurs/Fri, 4:30pm – 6:30pm
  • Novice Men Preseason Camp: August 6 – August 17, Mon/Weds/Thurs/Fri, 4:30pm – 6:30pm

PREREQUISITES: Only open to rowers who will register for fall season for one of AJRA’s competitive squads. Our expectation is that if you sign up for this camp, you will be rowing in fall season. Returning rowers: choose the squad that you will be eligible to row with in the fall of 2018.

COST: $275 for either Varsity Camp, $225 for either Novice Camp

Please note for all camps:

  • If a rower participated with AJRA this past spring, hard copies of the Physician’s Fitness Verification Form are not required to be resubmitted. If this form is out of date, we will contact you and let you know.
  • ALL fees for AJRA summer programs MUST be paid at the time of registration or the registered rower will not be permitted to participate in any AJRA activities.
  • We do not offer split payments, pro-rated payments, or refunds for summer programs.
