AJRA Defends Coaches Cup at Henley on Hooch

On a beautiful fall day on our home stretch of the Chattahoochee, AJRA rowers successfully defended the coveted Coaches Cup as overall team winner of the Henley on the Hooch regatta Nov. 12 — giving the club bragging rights against friendly rivals St. Andrew Rowing Club for the 8th consecutive year.  The event featured 11 Novice and Varsity races along with exhibition racing by AJRA’s Developmental squad.  AJRA won 9 races — besting St. Andrew in all categories except 1st Varsity Men’s 8+ and 4+ boats.

The regatta was  started in 1996 and gets its name from the famed British Henley Regatta, which is the longest running sporting event in the world.  The event showcases the competitive field of athletes and the growing popularity of youth rowing in the city of Atlanta while providing spectators an opportunity to see firsthand the intensity and excitement of rowing competition.  Congratulations, AJRA! Henley on the Hooch Results Here.

AJRA Tradition-Alumni Row 2011

Nearly 50 AJRA alumni rowers and parents  came out to the boathouse on the day after Thanksgiving for the annual Alumni Row — one of the club’s cherished traditions.  This year, current and former AJRA rowers raced a St. Andrews alumni boat, reconnected with coaches and friends, and enjoyed the famous paninis prepared by veteran hospitality volunteers!  Thanks for continuing to be a part of AJRA!

It’s a tradition!   The race was started in 1996 and gets its name from the famed British Henley Regatta — the longest running sporting event in the world.  The Henley on the Hooch is back again, set this year for Saturday, Nov. 12.   Our annual race allows AJRA to go head-to-head in a little “friendly competition” with St. Andrew.  But, make no mistake-our AJRA rowers take it pretty seriously.  AJRA has won the Coaches Cup for the past seven consecutive years, and we don’t intend to stop now!

This is a great opportunity for friends and family to see rowing first hand right on our home stretch of the Chattahoochee, and close enough to get a good photo, too.  Food will be available for rowers and families.  Races are scheduled from approximately 8:50 a.m.- 11:40 p.m., followed by the trophy presentation at 12:20 p.m.  Exhibitions by the AJRA Developmental Squad will be held beginning at 8:00 a.m.  Here is the final race schedule but note that all rowers are expected to be present for the entire event.   Go AJRA!
