With many AJRA boats posting medalist finishes at the John Hunter Regatta, the club brought home the Junior Team Points trophy with 681 points, besting second place by almost 300 points. The day started with huge thunderstorms, delaying the regatta by 4 hours, but luckily the officials were able to get a full schedule of racing in the second half of the day, allowing all AJRA squads great opportunities for valuable race experience.

The highlights of the day were the Men’s Varsity 8+ and Women’s Varsity 4+ bringing home first place by open water in both championship events, with each boat also qualifying through their heat with a first place finish. Both novice squads also brought home first place medals, with the Men’s Novice A 8+ and the Women’s Novice B 8+ both taking first place in their flights.

Atlanta Junior Rowing Association Spring Season Starts with Success

March 6th, 2012 Posted by Races & Regattas 0 thoughts on “Atlanta Junior Rowing Association Spring Season Starts with Success”

The first regatta of the 2012 spring season, our Quad Race at Lake Lanier, is in the books for AJRA! It was a strong showing for the whole team, showcasing our depth and providing valuable race experience early in the spring. AJRA rowers had a chance to race against Augusta Rowing, Capital City Rowing, and St. Andrews in all events.

The women’s varsity team provided lots of excitement with a clean sweep, with the V8, 2V8, and 3V8 all taking first place in their races. The women’s novice team followed suit, with the 1st Novice 8 winning both of their races, and the 2nd Novice 8 coming in 3rd in the same race. On the men’s side, there were several close races with the V8 coming in 3rd, and the 2V8 and 3V8 winning both of their flights. The men’s novice team raced in even lineups, and provided stiff competition for each other while coming in 2nd and 3rd in their pieces.

Our next race will be the John Hunter Regatta on March 24th, so plenty of time to put in more hard work and continue to build speed.

AJRA rowers will take to the water for the first races of the Spring Season on March 3rd in a quad-race at Lake Lanier with Augusta Rowing, Capital City Rowing and St. Andrews.  These events will give our rowers valuable race experience and will help coaches see how our boats stack up this early in the season.

Varsity and Novice rowers should arrive at Lake Lanier by 11 am and are expected to stay through the loading of the trailer at the conclusion of racing.

Details will follow shortly along with a TENTATIVE SCHEDULE.

Please look for the AJRA tents and come cheer on our athletes.   We are looking forward to watching some great rowing!
