Do you have friends who are athletic but not part of any sport?

Maybe they didn’t make a high school team or are just burned out on traditional sports.

THIS is their chance to try rowing at no cost and with no obligation.

Come to the AJRA Open House at the Roswell boathouse the week of Mon., August 22nd during the same days and times as our regular Novice practice schedule.

No experience is necessary — just an interest in learning a new sport based on fitness and conditioning, dedication, and teamwork.   Openings are NOW available for high schoolers on both the Men’s and Women’s Novice squads.

See Open House-Fall 2011 for all the info.

Do you have friends who are athletic but not part of any sport?

Maybe they didn’t make a high school team or are just burned out on traditional sports.  Now they’ll have a chance to try rowing at no cost and with no obligation.  AJRA is offering a one-week Open House at the boathouse beginning Mon., Jan. 24 during the same days and times as our regular Novice practice schedule.  (Practice days and times are listed under the “Getting Started” tab.)

Coaches will have special land and on-the-water activities for any athlete interested in learning more about our Novice program.  Board members will also be available that week to answer questions from rowers and parents.  Openings are available for high schoolers on both the Men’s and Women’s Novice squads.  No experience is necessary — just an interest in learning a new sport based on fitness and conditioning, dedication, and teamwork.    Openings are also available on Novice and Varsity squads for those interested in being a coxswain — a person generally small in stature but with the leadership skills needed to implement race strategy and act as coach on the water.

No sign-up is necessary, and participants can attend any or all Novice practice days the week of Jan. 24 as long as they bring a signed waiver with them the first day.  2010 Waiver_9473OJ.   Participants should dress warmly in work-out attire and bring water.   For questions or more information, contact John Pearson at coachjp@gmail.com.  Anyone interested in learning more about AJRA prior to the Open House is welcome to attend any day of our Winter Conditioning Session II beginning the first week of January.  Days and times are listed under Events on our Calendar.  Just bring a signed waiver and let one of the coaches know when you arrive.  New rowers and parents are also invited to attend AJRA’s Spring Registration Meeting on Sun., Jan. 23 at 2:30 pm at Roswell Landing.  Registration for Spring Season will remain open until after the Open House for those who want to signup.
