Winter Training Pays Rewards in Spring

Congratulations to all AJRA rowers for tremendous effort during the fall season.  Many of you really stepped it up and achieved a new level of fitness.  Now is the time to make sure you don’t lose it over the winter.  Session 1 of winter conditioning is an optional program for Varsity and Novice rowers that takes place from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the boathouse for three weeks — from Mon., Nov. 29 to Thurs., Dec. 16.  Women will attend on Mon., Tues., and Thurs., and the men will attend on Mon., Wed., and Thurs.  Training will include ergs, weights, circuits, running, and on the water rowing. The program will be coached by Bryce Carlson and Julie McQueen.  There is no fee to attend, and no sign-up is required.  However, the program is limited to returning Varsity and Novice rowers from the fall season.  Session 2 of winter conditioning is mandatory for returning Varsity rowers and optional for Novice. The schedule will be the same as session 1 with women beginning on Tues., Jan. 4, and men starting on Wed., Jan. 5.  To keep rowers motivated, coaches have outlined a competition for the Women’s and Men’s Varsity squads based on a points system awarded for workouts completed at practice or own your own.  Rowers received a spreadsheet from their coach on which to report workouts.  Mystery prizes will be awarded but the real prize comes in the spring season when the rowers will be more fit, pull better erg times, and win more races!
